Nachos

Nachos are perfect for almost every occasion. Snack time, movie time, and even camping! Check out our recipe below for the best campfire nachos.

Ingredients:
  • Tortilla chips
  • Shredded cheese (cheddar, Monterey Jack, or a blend)
  • Cooked meat (such as ground beef, shredded chicken, or pulled pork)
  • Diced tomatoes
  • Diced onions
  • Sliced jalapeños
  • Black beans (rinsed and drained)
  • Optional toppings: sour cream, guacamole, salsa, chopped cilantro, etc.
Instructions:
  1. Prepare the campfire: Build a fire and let it burn down to hot coals. You’ll need a good bed of hot coals for cooking the nachos.
  2. Assemble the nachos: Take a cast-iron skillet or a disposable aluminum foil pan and layer the bottom with a single layer of tortilla chips. Spread an even layer of shredded cheese over the chips. Then, add a layer of cooked meat, diced tomatoes, diced onions, sliced jalapeños, and black beans. Repeat the layers as desired, depending on the size of your skillet or pan.
  3. Cook the nachos: Place the skillet or pan directly on the hot coals of the campfire. Cover the skillet with aluminum foil to help retain heat and melt the cheese. Cook for about 10-15 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and the toppings are heated through. You can carefully lift the foil to check the progress.
  4. Add optional toppings: Once the nachos are cooked, remove the foil cover and add any optional toppings you desire, such as sour cream, guacamole, salsa, or chopped cilantro.
  5. Serve and enjoy: Using oven mitts or heat-resistant gloves, carefully remove the skillet or pan from the fire. Let it cool for a few minutes before serving. Scoop out the delicious campfire nachos onto plates or into bowls and enjoy them while they’re still warm and gooey.

Note: Be cautious while handling the hot skillet or pan, as it will be extremely hot. You can use long-handled tongs or utensils to move the nachos or add toppings.

Campfire nachos are a crowd-pleasing camping treat that can be customized with your favorite toppings. Enjoy them as a snack, appetizer, or even a main course during your outdoor adventures! We look forward to seeing your nachos at Knoxville Campground.
